As a part of promoting a series of 25 recordings of classical music for the subscribers,  the biggest Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter have asked artists to make remixes of these recordings. Håkan Lidbo picked one of his favorites from Beethoven. The great 5th symphony. Listen here.

Rouchly translated from DN:

Electronica veteran and radio profile Hakan Lidbo takes on Beethoven’s famous fifth in an exclusive remix of DN.se. “I took the four notes of the famous main theme, and made them as beefy as possible,” he says.
Hakan Lidbo was born in Malmo in 1965 but lives in Stockholm where he makes music and radio. Right  now broadcasting the fifth season of his current program Ström in P2, a show about electronic music. On his label Container Publishing Lidbo has released  more than 250 records. Among other things, the acclaimed “Chambertronica” (2008), which is a creative collision of musicians in electronic music and contemporary chamber music. A concert is scheduled in the Berwaldhallen in the fall. Lidbo also works on a game of iPad, where you create your own music while playing the game.
What attracted you to do a remix of Beethoven’s fifth?
- Because it’s the most famous music there is and therefore is an excellent way to communicate with. Beethoven’s music are looks for maximum power and easy to sympathize with, similar to the French electro-house scene, Justice and Daft Punk, who have bass lines that are so impressive that they make you poop. If Beethovenhad  lived  today, he would have been looking for the same effect, adding ten different layers of synth basses on each other, I promise!
What have you done to Beethoven?
- I took the four notes of the famous main theme from the first movement and varied them in different ways. Made them as beefy as possible. And I tried to put empasis on the weird collision between Beethoven and electrohouse. There is alsoabout high and low culture. What’s good art and what’s trash. That tension has always interested me – in music and in culture at large.
