drumbots_bigbild10 midi controlled servos bang on physical objects – make them vibrate in frequencies that match musical keys. Composing with these robotic musicians is very much about selecting object that sound good. The project is a part of an ongoing search for everyday objects with interesting acoustic properties. Why don’t we manufacture the stuff around us so that they actually sound good? Why don’t we make car seats or sofas like drums – we keep tapping rhythms on them anyway. Why don’t we make tea cups with less harsh overtones and print books with better resonance? Drumbots were built by Nick Yulman/Bricolo Music
