In May 26 2007, 9 o’clock in the morning, Mathtiiaas Rosén and Håkan Lidbo met at the Steinway Piano Showroom in Stockholm. The Showroom is beautifully located inside the Historical Museum of Stockholm.
The whole thing started as an idea. Mathtiias and Håkan had known each other for more than 10 years, they had booth been very active in the Swedish electronica music scene and met many times to discuss musical ideas. But never before had they played together. And this time, the first time, the only rule was; there are no rules. The music was totally improvised and in a natural way it ended up as 8 sessions of about 10 minutes each.
The session was recorded with 4 microphones placed in the corners of the room. It was also filmed with 2 DV cameras.
Afterwards Mathtiiaas and Håkan did some editing on the sessions. Some recordings were cut and manipulated and some left almost intact.
The film from the two cameras were given to different visual artists that did 8 videos, one for each session. The filmed material used in the video for each session was taken from that recording session.
The Piano Showroom Session is a musical meeting, a conversation in music. A way to explore the origin of their musical background like a sonic therapy session. Two musicians, that both want to move their own music beyond limitations.
