– Introducing Clean Air Sleeping; world’s first sleep program based on an air cleaner manual

In times when one in three struggle with sleep problems, home appliance company Electrolux walks an extra mile to enhance the chances of a good night’s sleep; based on the simple fact that clean air leads to better sleep quality. ‘Clean Dreams’ is a sleeping program based on the latest air cleaner’s instruction manual directed by renowned music producer Håkan Lidbo. Hence the air cleaner will not only improve the quality of your sleep, it will help you fall asleep more effectively.

In today’s stressed life a good night’s sleep is essential for the body to recover and restock energy; but having eight hours of uninterrupted sleep is to many considered a luxury. A comfortable bed and cool temperature in the bedroom are well known means. Less talked about is the fact that good air quality in the bedroom increases the chances of a good night’s sleep.

“Repeated measurements in homes have shown that bedrooms are often poorly ventilated. We have seen that you are 10-13 times more likely to be exposed to bad indoor air quality in your bedroom than in your living room. Specific measures to improve indoor air quality in bedrooms, for example using an air cleaner, are therefore highlyrecommended”, says Jelle Laverge, Researcher in the field of building physics, Ghent University, Belgium.

Air quality is known to influence how well we sleep; having clean air in the bedroom increases the chances of better and less interrupted sleep. As spring is getting closer the levels of air pollution raises, not only outside but also in our homes. Research shows that the risk of stop breathing for at least 10 seconds while sleeping is increased by 13 percent in summer months when pollution levels are elevated. With an air cleaner in the bedroom pollution and allergens are reduced with up to 99.9 percent.

To help people fall asleep Electrolux has developed a sleep program together with Swedish music producer Håkan Lidbo – known for producing and remixing artists such as Fatboy Slim and Depeche Mode. In the program a relaxing voice guides you through the instruction manual, accompanied by suggestive music based on the sound of the air cleaner and with the purpose of helping the listener to fall asleep. According to an Electrolux survey on air quality people strongly associate clean air with nature, a fact that Lidbo has taken into consideration.

“Few people find instruction manuals exciting; in fact they’re often considered boring. In this case the main purpose of listening to the manual is actually to help you fall asleep. While asleep the air cleaner increases the chances of uninterrupted sleep and reduces the risks of problems such as snoring and sleep apnea. Clean air sleeping is better sleeping”, says Laura Katinaite, Retail Category Manager at Electrolux.

“We’ve recently begun to understand how music affects us, both physically and psychologically. Research shows relaxing music should have 80 beats per minutes, have a soft melody and be instrumental. What relaxes us is also a matter of taste, some may find peace while listening to black metal, and others prefer classical music. But I’m pretty sure listening to our sleep program will make the listener relax and eventually fall asleep”, says music producer Håkan Lidbo.

Quiet operation
With a four-speed fan with quiet operation that is ideal for nighttime.

Air quality sensor

J. Reset: Resets the “Check Filter” indicator light.

L. AUTO: Automatically adjusts the fan speed according to the amount of impurities.

AIR CLEANER SET-UP

Place the unit away from drafty areas, as the sensors may not react accurately. Do not place near curtains, furniture, or other items that might inhibit air flow. Place the unit on a stable surface.

1.     Remove protective film from the control panel.

2. Remove the front panel by pulling gently from the lower portion of the panel.Do not force; the panel should
remove easily.

3.      Remove the Filter Cassette and remove the plastic wrapper from it.

4.     Install the Filter Cassette by inserting tabs up into the air cleaner and gently pushing in at the bottom tab until the frame fits into place.

5.     Replace the front panel by hooking the panel on the top of the unit.

6.     Swing the panel in by pushing gently on each side of the unit and then lock it into place.

7.     Plug the power cord into a wall outlet.

8.     Press and hold the POWER button until a short “beep” sound.

9.     The air cleaner will take 3~4 minutes to calibrate the air quality sensor. During this time the sensor lights will flash on and off.

10.  Once the sensor has calibrated, the lights will be on “AUTO” mode.

Do not use near flammable gases.
Do not place directly beneath a smoke detector, as this could reduce the smoke detector’s sensitivity.
Do not put objects on top of or inside of unit.
Do not block the grills.
Do not unplug the power cord before air cleaner has cooled down.
Do not place the air cleaner near a heater.
Do not use detergent to clean the unit.
Do not wash and reuse the ALLERGY PLUS FILTER filter or the Carbon filter (EAP450).

Hold the handle on the back of the unit to transport. Do not hold by the front panel.

Filter Cassette

The Check Filter indicator will signal when to replace the entire Filter Cassette. The replacement period will vary depending on the hours of usage, air quality, and location of the unit. However, in most cases of normal use the filter will need to be replaced annually. This Filter Cassette should be disposed of when changed.

Filter Cassette replacement

1. Turn off the air cleaner and unplug the electrical cord.
2. Remove the front panel by pulling gently from the lower portion of the panel. Do not force, the panel should remove easily.
3. Remove the Filter Cassette by gently pulling out from the bottom and down from the top.
4. Remove all the filters from the plastic frame and dispose of it.
5. Remove the replacement filters from the plastic bag and replace them.
6. Plug in air cleaner and press POWER button until short “beep” sounds.
7. Press the RESET FILTER button by gently inserting a paperclip into the RESET FILTER hole on the control panel. The light will flash 5 times before a “beep” sounds to indicate the filter has been reset.

REMOTE CONTROL

Operate the remote control facing the air cleaner.Operate within 6 metres of the air cleaner.The remote control has a separate wall-mountable storage cradle that can be conveniently attached to any wall using a screw.

POWER: Use the power button to turn the power on and off. A short “beep” will sound when the unit turns on and off. AUTO Mode: Use the AUTO button to put air cleaner in AUTO mode.
FAN SPEED: By pressing up or down, the unit will change fan speeds and enter into manual mode.
TURBO: Use this button to switch from automatic operation and start the maximum amount of room air cleaning and air movement. It will remain in Turbo speed until changed into Auto or manual mode.

Battery replacement

1.Squeeze tabs of battery cover and at the same time pull cover out of remote.
2. Insert battery as shown and close battery cover.
3. Always use 3V lithium battery CR2025. Incorrect battery usage may cause battery fluid leakage and/or damage.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Turn off the unit and unplug the electrical cord before performing any maintenance.

— Clean unit as necessary by wiping with a dry, soft cloth; for stubborn stains, use a warm, damp cloth.
— Do not use volatile fluids such as benzene, paint thinner or scouring powder, as they may damage the surface. Keep the unit dry.
— Lightly vacuum air quality sensor every three months.

Can I wash my filter?
No, the filters that come with the unit will fall apart and be ruined if water is run through them. (The Washable Pre Filter and ALLERGY PLUS Filter for model EAP450 can be washed)

Can I vacuum my filter?
No, vacuuming will only spread the dust back into the air. If you think the filter is too dirty, it may be time to replace. (The Washable Pre Filter for model EAP450 can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush)

There is an odour coming from the unit and I just opened it.
The unit has been concealed in a tightly wrapped package of currogated cardboard and plastic. Because this has a fan and pulls air through it, it may give off some “new” odours. Depending on sensitivity, this should wear off in several days or perhaps a week depending on how much it is used.

Will this clean a bigger area than what it is rated for?
CADR ratings are provided from a controlled testing environment, if that environment changes, it can affect the performance. However if you have a slightly larger room than what the CADR rating is, it will still help improve the air, but may take a bit longer to do so.

Where should I place the unit?
Allow proper air circulation around the sides and infront of the unit. If there are doors or narrow hallways it may reduce the airflow to the air cleaner, but will eventually circulate near the machine.

The AIR QUALITY light is orange or red, but the air seems clean.
Clear the sensor with a vacuum cleaner, as it may be blocked or clogged.
Sometimes a compressed can of air may unclog the dust in the sensor.

There is still some dust you can see in the air or on my furniture
The unit will capture most dust and particles, however with opening doors, windows, central HVAC etc… there may still be some level of dust that you can see.

There is nothing holding the filters in place
The filters are meant to rest inside the unit. Once the unit is turned on, the force of air pulled through the machine will create a tight seal of the filters.

I can hear revving of the fan motor
This is normal, especially at night when all environmental sounds are quiet, you may hear the motor running in repetition.

The unit has stopped removing odours effectively, or seems to be emitting an odour.
Make sure the air quality sensor is not blocked or clogged.
Move the unit closer to the offending odours.
Replace the filters as they may have reached their capacity to absorb pollutants. You may need to replace filters more frequently.
The CHECK FILTER indicator remains lit after replacing the HEPA filter.
Press the RESET FILTER button by gently inserting a paper-clip into the  RESET FILTER button hole. Hold for 3-5 seconds until a “beep” sounds to  indicate the unit has been reset.

DISPOSAL

Recycle the materials with the symbol.
Put the packaging in applicable containers to recycle it.
Help protect the environment and human health and to recycle waste of electrical and electronic appliances.
Do not dispose appliances marked with the symbol with the household waste. Return the product to your local recycling facility or contact your municipal office.

INSTALLATION AV LUFTRENAREN

Placera inte enheten där det drar, eftersom sensorerna då kanske inte reagerar på rätt sätt. Placera den inte nära gardiner, möbler eller andra föremål som kan hindra luftflödet. Placera enheten på ett stabilt underlag.

1. Avlägsna skyddsfilmen från kontrollpanelen.
2. Ta bort frontpanelen genom att dra försiktigt i den nedre delen av panelen. Använd inte våld, den ska kunna tas bort enkelt.
3. Ta bort HEPA 13-filtret och kolförfiltret från plastomslaget.
4. Sätt in HEPA 13-filtret med pilen som visar luftflödet mot luftrenarens baksida. De vita flikarna längst upp och längst ned på HEPA 13-filtret pekar utåt mot framsidan av enheten.
5. Sätt in kolförfiltret framför HEPA 13-filtret.
6. Sätt in plastramen genom att föra upp flikarna i luftrenaren och försiktigt trycka in vid den nedersta fliken tills ramen sätts på plats. Byt ut frontpanelen genom att haka fast den på enhetens ovansida. Sväng in panelen genom att trycka försiktigt på båda sidorna av enheten och lås fast den.
7. Anslut nätsladden till ett vägguttag.
8. Tryck och håll ned POWER-knappen tills du hör ett kort pipljud. 
9. Det tar tre till fyra minuter för luftrenaren att kalibrera luftkvalitetssensorn. Under den tiden blinkar sensorlamporna.
10. När sensorn har kalibrerats lyser lamporna i läget ”AUTO”

Filterkassett

Kontrollampan Check Filter (Kontrollera filter) visar det är dags att byta hela filterkassetten. Hur ofta du behöver byta beror på antal användningstimmar, luftkvalitet och enhetens placering. Vid normal användning behöver filtret vanligtvis bytas ut en gång om året.

Byte av filterkassetten

1. Stäng av luftrenaren och dra ut nätsladden.
2. Ta bort frontpanelen genom att dra försiktigt i den nedre delen av panelen. Använd inte våld när du ska ta bort panelen, den ska lossna enkelt.
3. Ta bort filterkassetten genom att försiktigt dra utåt nedifrån och nedåt uppifrån.
4. Ta bort alla filter från plastramen och släng den.
5. Ta ut de nya filtren ur plastförpackningen och byt ut dem.
6. Anslut luftrenaren och tryck på POWER-knappen tills du hör ett kort pipljud.
7. Tryck på knappen RESET FILTER genom att försiktigt föra in ett gem i hålet RESET FILTER på kontrollpanelen. Lampan blinkar fem gånger, och sedan hörs ett pipljud som betyder att filtret har återställts.

När du ska använda fjärrkontrollen riktar du den mot luftrenaren. Stå inte längre bort än sex meter från luftrenaren. Fjärrkontrollen har en separat förvaringshållare som kan monteras på väggen med en skruv.

POWER: Slå på eller stäng av strömmen med Power-knappen. Ett kort pipljud hörs när enheten slås på eller stängs av.
AUTO-läge: Med AUTO-knappen aktiverar du läget AUTO.
FAN SPEED: Genom att trycka uppåt eller nedåt ändrar du fläkthastighet och aktiverar manuellt läge. 
TURBO: Med den här knappen växlar du från automatisk drift och startar maximal luftrening och luftrörelse i rummet. Enheten är i Turbo-läge tills du ändrar det till Auto eller manuellt.

Byte av batteri

1. Tryck på flikarna på batterilocket och dra locket från fjärrkontrollen.
2. Sätt in batteriet enligt bilden och stäng batterilocket.
3. Använd alltid ett 3 V litiumbatteri, CR2025. Felaktig batterianvändning kan orsaka batterivätskeläckage och/ eller skada.

SKÖTSEL OCH UNDERHÅLL

VARNING! Stäng av enheten och dra ut nätsladden innan du utför underhåll.

• Rengör enheten vid behov genom att torka den med en torr, mjuk trasa. För svåra fläckar kan du använda en varm, fuktig trasa.
• Använd inte lättflyktiga ämnen som bensen, thinner eller skurpulver, eftersom det kan skada ytan. Håll enheten torr.
• Dammsug luftkvalitetssensorn försiktigt var tredje månad.

Kan jag tvätta mitt filter?
Nej, filtren som medföljer enheten förstörs om de sköljs med vatten. (Filtren till modell EAP450 kan tvättas)
Kan jag dammsuga filtret?
Nej, om du dammsuger filtret sprids bara dammet ut i luften igen. Om du tycker att filtret är för smutsigt kan det vara dags att byta det. (Det rengöringsbara förfiltret till modell EAP450 kan rengöras med dammsugare eller en mjuk borste)
Det kommer en lukt från enheten och jag har precis öppnat den.
Enheten har varit tätt förpackad i korrugerad kartong och plast. Eftersom enheten har en fläkt som drar igenom luft kan den ge ifrån sig vissa ”nya” lukter. Beroende på känslighet och hur mycket enheten används bör lukten avta efter några dagar eller en vecka.
Kan enheten rena ett större område än den är klassad för?
CADR-klassificeringen fastställs i en kontrollerad testmiljö, och om den miljön ändras kan prestandan påverkas. Om du har ett något större rum än CADR-klass förbättras ändå luften. Det tar bara lite längre tid.
Var ska jag placera enheten?
Se till att luft kan cirkulera framför och på sidorna av enheten. Dörrar eller trånga korridorer kan minska luftflödet till luftrenaren, men luften cirkulerar så småningom nära apparaten.
Lampan AIR QUALITY är orange eller röd, men luften känns ren.
Dammsug sensorn. Den kan vara blockerad eller igentäppt.
Ibland kan det fungera att ta bort damm i sensorn med en tryckluftsburk.
Det finns fortfarande lite damm i luften eller på möblerna
Enheten fångar upp det mesta av damm och partiklar, men på grund av dörrar, fönster, VVS-system osv. kan det ändå finnas en viss mängd synligt damm.
Det finns inget som håller filtren på plats
Det är meningen att filtren ska vila inuti enheten. När enheten slås på skapas en förslutning med filtren med hjälp av kraften från luften som dras genom apparaten.
Jag kan höra fläktmotorn
Det är normalt, särskilt på natten när det är tyst runt omkring kan du höra ljud från motorn.
Enheten tar inte längre bort lukt effektivt, eller också ger den ifrån sig lukt.
Se till att luftkvalitetssensorn inte är blockerad eller igentäppt.
Flytta enheten närmare den dåliga lukten.

Byt ut filtren. De kanske inte längre kan absorbera föroreningar. Du kanske behöver byta filter oftare.

Kontrollampan CHECK FILTER lyser även efter att jag har bytt HEPA-filtret.
Tryck på knappen RESET FILTER genom att försiktigt föra in ett gem i hålet RESET FILTER. Håll det intryckt i tre till fem sekunder tills du hör ett pipljud som indikerar att enheten har återställts.

KASSERING

Återvinn material med symbolen.
Återvinn förpackningen genom att placera den i lämpligt kärl. Bidra till att skydda vår miljö och vår hälsa genom att återvinna avfall från elektriska och elektroniska produkter.

Släng inte produkter märkta med symbolen med hushållsavfallet. Lämna in produkten på närmaste återvinningsstation eller kontakta kommunkontoret.
